Bush Camp Details
This page owes its existence almost entirely due to one urbanista client, who arrived here in the bush expecting some kind of 5 Star luxury hotel. We failed because there were NO deep-pile carpets, triple-fluff duvets, lock-up parking for the Lamborghini, olympic size swimming pool with tennis courts, a'la carte evening dining, a full bar (with free & 'available') dancing girls, room service, etc. Do I need to add here that he was, er... "disappointed"?
Amanzimlotzi is a different reality and is the bushveldt. Our camp is very nice and vastly improved since 2006, but our facilities are quite basic - which is 99% of the charm with "getting away". It may shock some, but this in not the »Ritz!
So this is our disappointment prevention page. Here you can find more details about our facilities at Amanzimlotzi.

This tent has 6 zipped mozzie-proof windows. The door was damaged the first time we put it up. A wooden door was fitted. It still needs some bamboo to finish it off. The bathroom still needs some stone tiling to make it better, but everything works, and you have sizzling hot water from a gas geyser. The pole wall is only 80% complete. We still plan to put a sail above the tent to keep it out of the rain & sun! The tent is equipped with a double bed and a single. Bedding and towels are provided. There is as fan and two normal SA 3 pin plugs, but the capacity is very limited. You may bring a small fridge & a kettle. When two people use a kettle simultaneously, the power will trip. There are three lights - in the tent, in the front area & in the bathroom. If you bring 6 yellow dusters or other soft cloths, you can plug up around the tent poles to seal it very well! We lived in this tent for 5 months while we built our house!
The advantage of staying in the tents is that you hear every lion roar & hyena call! You do not need an alarm clock, as the birds will wake you at dawn!
This tent has now been moved to a new site that is more in the bush.
It is under a huge tree & the bathroom was
built next to it. Since we had people in a wheelchair, &
found out how these people battle to get affordable
accommodation, we built the bathroom so that it is wheelchair
accessible. Getting into the tent there is a small bump
over the doorsill.
Since quite dense bush surrounds this tent, it is difficult to get a good photo!

This is an old Army-type tent, where the floor flap was eaten away by termites. Now a small brick wall keeps it closed up at the bottom. Supplying hot water to this tent's shower is still on my to-do list. The tent has a double bed, a chair, a fan and a desk of drawers that got wet along with my baby grand piano during the contruction of our house. Outside it has a built-in table facing the bush & a BBQ with an electric light. The bathroom also has a light and there is a 3-pin outlet inside the tent.
Entrance to the tent's area, with the bush
table on the right.
A wider view of the tent, with the BBQ
(fireplace). You may see monkeys at play through the high
window early in the morning.
If you turn the warthog tooth, water comes out
of the log. No longer - We replaced this with a solar hot water
system that has more conventional red & black taps.
And this is the new solar water heating system.
No problems with smells - all in the open.

Don't worry, only the bush nightlife can watch you.

There is an old pool table & a dart board.

On the right hand side is a freezer,

(solar assisted) geyser, 1 bathroom (not complete). Sputnik
"washing machine" under pool table. Another stainless steel
work-surface, a two plate hotplate, and a monkey proof
container with some utensils as needed.
The camping terrain seen from the pool. The
river is about 35 meters to the right.
The ablutions are rough plastered &
painted. As it should be in a bush-camp, everything is very basic.
